Texas Notary Information

The State of Texas Government Code Ann. § 406.024 sets out the maximum fees a Notary Public may charge for notary public services.

Notary Services – State Fees

  • First signature of each individual: $6
  • Each additional signature of each individual: $1
  • Administering an oath or affirmation: $6
  • Taking the deposition of a witness, for each 100 words: $0.50
  • Swearing a witness to a deposition: $6
  • Protesting a bill or note: $4
  • Each additional notice of protest: $1
  • Protesting in all other cases: $4
  • Certified copy of a non-recordable document: $6
  • Copies of all records from the notary’s record book, per page: $0.50
  • All notarial acts not provided for: $6

Travel fees – not specified by law

  • Travel within 5 mile radius of notary’s location: $10
  • Mileage (each additional mile): $0.50
  • Rush fee (appointment needed within 1 hour of request): $25
  • Late night (after 9:00pm): $75
  • Cancellation within 1 hour of appointment: 50% of travel fees

  • Un “notary public” no está autorizado para ejercer como abogado.
  • Un “notary public” no está autorizado para dar asesoría legal o preparar documentos legales.
  • Un “notary public” no está autorizado para cobrar por preparar documentos migratorios o representar a alguien en materia de migración.
  • Le rogamos que reporte a la Secretaría de Estado a cualquier persona que, ejerciendo como “notary public”, desobedezca estas reglas.

  • A notary public may not charge a fee for preparation of immigration documents or represent someone in immigration matters.
